I’m in New Orleans at a National Endowment for the Humanities summer retreat with nearly thirty other professors and graduate students. It’s been enlightening, wonderful, crazy and very tiring and we have nearly two more weeks left. After the retreat, I have to finish a novel rewrite so I can submit it to the publisher by the end of August. So, I’ve decided to suspend publication of The Revelers until the first weekend in September. The photo was taken at the Whitney Plantation, a restored sugar cane plantation located just outside of New Orleans. It is dedicated to showing a realistic representation of slavery. The children in the photo are clay sculptures and there are several of them in this church and in other places on the plantation. It is a place worth seeing!
